2014 BMW i8 Review, Price, Interior, Exterior, Exterior, Engine |
2014 BMW i8 Review, Price, Interior, Exterior, Exterior, Engine. - Based on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car shown a couple of years ago, represents 2014 BMW i8 the German automaker vision of a high performance hybrid. This is what the future looks like. We can get behind a 3.0 liter inline 6 gasoline engine the form where the BMW traditionally excels joined with an electric motor for stop start fuel efficiency, especially when both devices are combining to make 349 horsepower and 406 pound feet of torque. 2014 i8 will be able to overturn from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds retrieving 78 mpg, so that the company claims. It will also be able to motor vehicle up to 22 miles solely on electricity. Sounds like a pretty good future for us.
Lightweight design helps to bring such lofty performance within reach, in particular an aluminium chassis and extensive use of carbon fibre reinforced bars within the passenger cabin. If the production of i8 follows the concept, its wheelbase being only slightly longer than a BMW M3 sedan, but it will be 8 inches shorter overall and also 3 inches wider. It must also be weighed 650 pounds less than M3. BMW will even squeeze efficiency out of in model ‘s headlamps, skipping the current generation of LED lights and employ laser light.
2014 BMW i8 Price and Release Date :
The new 2014 BMW i8 should be in showrooms in the fall of 2013. It may cost between $350,000 and $400,000.
Concept Car Wrapping :
These images take away some features still seen on the concept, such as gullwing doors comprised of glass panels on their upper and lower surfaces. This rendering of the i8 has more conventional points of entry, as the bottom half is no longer a transparent pane of glass. However, during the New York Auto Show, a BMW rep did confirm the production version of the i8 would retain the concept car’s upward opening gullwing style doors. Score one for the BMW design team.
The leading edge of the now metal doors appear to be relieved to allow them to open slightly upward as well as outward, a factor also hinted at by the high sill and short door height. It does not appear to be a true gullwing-style door, however.
As for the rest of the BMW i8, it's expected to be a high performance hybrid in addition to a dramatically designed coupe. Acceleration to 60 mph should come in around the sub five second mark with a top speed of 155 mph. On top of the fast, it should be efficient, too, with the concept aimed at about 78 mpg. The i8 is expected to manage these impressive figures with a curb weight of about 3,200 pounds, a turbocharged 1.5 liter engine rated at about 223 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, plus an electric motor good for 170 horsepower making total combined output something close to 400 horsepower, with the double-bonus of turbo and electric torque at the low and mid range.
