2013 Subaru BRZ | Review, Specs, Price, Interior, Exterior |
The BRZ Subaru, is the result of one of the most bizarre business venture in the automotive industry since Alfa Romeo and Nissan hooked up in the 1980s to produce Arna, a spectacular car combines the worst features of both: That reliability suspect Alfa Romeo and Nissan boring styling and handling careless. This time, though, everyone looks like a winner. Subaru got a great sports car that can not afford to build, and Toyota got a great sports car, for badged as a Scion here in the United States, that he could not find space to build.
The latter question is a bit easier to answer from the Subaru BRZ perspective. For one, Subaru has a currently breathing reputation for building sporty cars: They may sell in limited volumes, but the WRX and STI are nevertheless Subarus. And Subaru says that the engine in its BRZ, a 2.0-liter flat-four making its first public appearance in this car, will form the basis of its next turbo motor. For its part, Toyota says that its version of the car to be sold as the Toyota 86 in Japan, as the GT 86 in at least the U.K., and as the Scion FR-S here makes sense as a first thrust in its plan to again build sporty, fun-to-drive vehicles. Still, this isn’t a car that most people saw coming from either manufacturer.
The Subaru BRZ is the result of one of the auto industry's oddest joint ventures since Alfa Romeo and Nissan hooked up in the 1980s to produce the ARNA, a car that spectacularly combined the worst features of both: It had Alfa Romeo's suspect reliability and Nissan's boring styling and sloppy handling. This time, though, everyone looks like a winner. Subaru gets a great sports car it couldn't afford to build, and Toyota gets a great sports car, to be badged as a Scion here in the United States, that it couldn't find room to build.
Price :
Pricing for 2013 Subaru BRZ is estimated at $ 25,000. But do not worry, this car has dwsign interior and exterior also has a sophisticated and trendy styles.
Torque Converted :
Torque Converted. - This BRZ may have a torque converter, but it doesn't have a lot of torque. According to Subaru the engine peaks at a maximum of 151 pound-feet while spinning at 6,400 rpm. So it takes a moment for the engine to get that converter going for a good launch.
The result is a rather chunky 0-60-mph time of 7.9 seconds with the traction control off (7.6 seconds with 1 foot of rollout as on a drag strip). And that's with the driver doing the shifting. The best run through the quarter-mile was 15.8 seconds at 91.3 mph.
Interior and Exterior :
Interior and Exterior. - From the front you'll probably find its hood exceptionally low punctuating its very low engine mounting and low center of mass with the low grille only below the bumper and headlights that spread wide into the fenders. Those headlights are about the only styling element that the BRZ has in common with Subaru's other cars. In back the look is more complex, with some of the headlight design echoed in the taillights but with carved-out sheetmetal in the middle, along with a blacked out rear valance, with twin pipes plus lights in the middle. The only things that are a little harder to warm up to are the side fender vents just ahead of the doors; even from ten feet away, they look like a Pep Boys add-on, and badging (like what the nearly identical Scion FR-S gets) could have avoided that eyesore.
Quick Specs :
Gas Mileage : 22 mpg City/30 mpg Hwy
Engine : Gas Flat 4, 2.0L
EPA Class : Subcompact Cars
Style Name : Premium Manual
Drivetrain : Rear Wheel Drive
Passenger Capacity : 4
Passenger Doors : 2
Body Style : 2dr Car
Transmission : 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission
For instance, with the traction control on, the manual transmission car uses 2.8 seconds to run from 45 mph to 60 mph, while under the same conditions it takes the automatic car 2.6 seconds to perform the same trick. Meanwhile, with traction control turned off, both the automatic and manual cars need 2.5 seconds to get from 45 mph to 60 mph.
Engine :
No official power rating details were provided; however, rumors abound that the normally aspirated engine is a 2.0-liter that will produce around 200 bhp. Delivering the power to the rear wheels is a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Three drive settings are available to the BRZ driver: normal, sport and snow. In sport, the engine mapping quickens its response to throttle inputs, which are put to good use by the Torsen limited-slip differential when exiting turns. The chassis, with struts in front and a multilink rear, also does its part, displaying an impressive overall agility.
