2013 Cadillac XTS | Review, Price, Interior, Exterior, Engine |
From the style and dynamic character of the 2013 Cadillac XTS, we'd say Cadillac has completely shed any remnants of its former reputation as a maker of billowy soft land yachts. Riding atop the same platform used to reinvigorate the Buick LaCrosse, the all-new XTS looks to extend Cadillac's youthful style into the upper reaches of its model lineup by replacing the aged DTS and STS sedans. And though Cadillac insists that the XTS is not its flagship sedan that car will come later, and it will compete with the top German cruisers for now, it represents the pinnacle of a luxury brand that has transformed itself from staid to striking within a decade.
Outside, the XTS expresses Cadillac's current styling vocabulary with its prominent grille, vertical headlamps and taillights, and sharply creased surfaces. The cabin speaks of modern refinement with its use of aluminum, leather and wood, and it's also highlighted by CUE, Cadillac's new electronics interface. It features a touch-sensitive display on the center stack to control navigation, climate systems and connected communication apps like Pandora.
The following is a performance-capsule review of the 2013 Cadillac XTS. It is based on our analysis of 13 published reviews and test drives. Please check back soon for our full review.

2013 Cadillac XTS Interior :
The XTS comes standard with Cadillac’s new infotainment system, known as CUE (Cadillac User Experience). The brain of the operation stems from an 8-inch touch screen in the center stack, which offers a user interface that shares similarities with many smartphones and tablets, including haptic feedback (vibration) and voice recognition. Additionally, Cadillac is including an iPad with each new 2013 XTS. A CUE iPad app is available to help familiarize buyers with the XTS’ bevy of tech features.
The vertical LED headlamps, standard on the Platinum trim level, mimic the thin vertical taillamps that became a Cadillac signature with the 2008 CTS and are so distinctive at night. The vertical LEDs on the headlamps, which are wider than on the concept, are also daytime running lamps. Like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Jaguar, distinctive premium lighting is a big deal on this car.
Standard safety equipment includes 10 airbags and anti-lock brakes. Two optional safety packages add features like forward collision alert with adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic collision preparation, front and rear automatic brakes and blind spot monitoring.
2013 Cadillac XTS Exterior :
The car will be available in two trim levels when it goes on sale in Spring of '12: XTS and XTS Platinum. Cadillac touts an almost Mercedes level of safety items in this car, including 10 airbags (including two front knee bags), front and rear park assists, optional distronic cruise control, rear cross-traffic alerts, side blind alerts, and lane departure alerts with haptic warnings in the driver's seat. The long-range radar part of the system hidden behind the huge grille badge has a collision warning system that will apply the Brembos at all four corners automatically if it senses a collision.
2013 Cadillac XTS Engine :
The 2013 Cadillac XTS features a single engine choice, a slightly detuned version of the same silky direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 found in the Cadillac CTS sedan. In this application, it generates 304 horsepower and returns 28 mpg on the highway. The XTS can also be had with all-wheel drive for improved all weather capability.
The 2013 Cadillac XTS is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 304 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission to drive the front wheels is standard. All-wheel drive is available. Cadillac says a front-wheel-drive XTS can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds, while returning an EPA-estimated 17 mpg city/28 mpg highway and 21 mpg combined.
