Auto reviewers say that after a complete overhaul, the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid is now one of the best midsize hybrid cars on the market. Test drivers are glad Toyota was listening to their complaints about the 2011 Camry Hybrid. They say the improvements Toyota made to the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid’s powertrain and interior are a welcome addition.

The 2012 Camry Hybrid’s best liked feature is that it transitions from gas to electric power seamlessly, with several reviewers saying the transition is excellent among hybrid powertrains. There are some concerns though. A few test drivers also noticed that the gas engine is noisy under hard acceleration.

Fuel economy has gone up significantly from last year’s model (which was rated at 31 mpg/city and 35 mpg/highway). EPA ratings now place the Camry Hybrid at 43 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway with a combined 41 mpg rating, which brings the Camry Hybrid to the front of the pack for fuel economy, besting cars like the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. This was accomplished by changes to the hybrid system, a weight reduction of about 250 pounds, adding lower rolling resistance tires, and creating a more aerodynamic shape. Toyota also offers Eco and EV driving modes on its hybrid. Eco mode maximizes fuel economy across all driving conditions and the EV mode keeps the vehicle in electric drive as long as possible (up to 25 mph). And with a fuel range of greater than 650 miles per tank, you’ll be able to spend more time on the road and less filling up.

The interior has also been redesigned for 2012, and the Camry Hybrid adds its own unique three-gauge instrument cluster. Information presented includes a power-flow display which shows energy flow, cruising range, and real-time fuel economy. Included in the redesign are gains in the rear seat leg and hip room.

The Camry Hybrid comes in two trim levels: the nicely configured LE and the higher level XLE. The LE comes with a long list of standard features, including dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, and USB/iPod and auxiliary audio input jacks. The XLE adds a leather wrapped steering wheel, eight-way power driver’s seat, and six-speaker Display Audio System with audio controls on the steering wheel. Further options include a sunroof, rearview camera, heated front seats, power passenger’s seat, navigation system, and an Entune System that integrates smartphone and web functions.

After nearly two hours of driving around Launceston’s hilly and twisty mountainous roads, we glanced at the average fuel economy figure expecting something along the lines of 14L/100km, the reality? 7.6L/100km. Lets put this into perspective because we were doing our absolute best to wreck the fuel economy figure. The accelerator pedal was getting a work out and our Camry was being treated like a rally car going around the mountain (with complete respect for the road rules, of course). As much as we love diesels, it’s fair to say that no diesel mid-size vehicle we can think of would’ve returned a fuel economy figure that impressive under the same conditions.

2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid Interior :
2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid -  The cabin interior was fitted with a soft material, so it is good for the passengers inside.Seating is all-day comfortable, and not just in the front row. Camry seats are kind to the gluteal portions of the anatomy, important in a car with a fuel range of 650-plus miles. Designers reshaped interior components to make it more spacious, with big gains in rear seat leg and hip room. There’s also more trunk space. The trunk mounted battery pack was reduced in size and the DC-to-DC converter was moved from the trunk area to under the hood. That increased cargo room to 13.1 cubic feet, a 2.5 cubic feet gain.

2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid Exterior :
2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid Exterior - On the exterior design of this car, designed with a sporty style. This car is perfect for the ride on the streets. You will get a an unforgettable experience during your trip. Toyota says that 50 percent of new Camry buyers will be current Camry owners. With a projected 360,000 first year sales 50,000 hybrids the automaker wisely won’t risk alienating that many loyal customers with polarizing styling. Granted, this seventh-generation Camry’s sheetmetal clothing bears more than just a little kinship to the previous model, the styling, while not stirring or striking, is clean, handsome and safe. The most noteworthy change is up front where a new chrome grille sweeps upward to a refreshed headlight design. Below, an expansive air inlet is flanked by trapezoidal chrome fog light recesses. The design fools the eye and gives the impression of greater width.

2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid Engine :
2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid Engine - Like the latest Prius, the Camry Hybrid gains both an Eco mode and an EV mode; the latter allows you to drive for a short distance on electric power only. Just as in the Prius, the electric motors are now used a little more. But even more importantly, drivability is greatly improved: Transitions between gasoline and electric power are smoother than ever, and the grabby feel during low-speed braking (because of the transition between regenerative braking and conventional braking) has been eliminated. In short, if you're not in Eco mode, which softens responses, the Camry Hybrid now drives more like a normal, four-cylinder sedan. source:usnews.rankingsandreviews.com.
